Movie Review-The Hangover Part II

I went into The Hangover Part II assuming it would give me some laughs, but also be a complete retread of the first film, and I was right on target. Part II follows the crew (Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, and Justin Bartha) to Thailand for Stu's wedding. Stu is understandably jaded from the events of the first film, and does not want a bachelor party. However a quiet beer on the beach soon turns into a crazy adventure as the guys wake up in a seedy motel in Bangkok with no memory of what brought them there. Adding insult to injury is the fact that Stu's 19 year old future brother in law is missing. The events of the film take them all over the city and from once crazy situation to another. Going into much more would give too much away, but safe to say The Hangover Part II is an over the top comedy with some very funny scenes. My one big complaint is that while the character of Alan in the first film was a unique and hilarious scene stealing presence, in this film he is promoted to lead star and if feels like most of Cooper and Helms' lines are used to set up Galifianiakis to do something funny. By the end of the movie I was pretty sick of Alan's character and hope if there is a third film, they balance it out more. The scene stealer in this one is Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong) who was also a scene stealer in the first film. Here he gets more to do and a bigger part, and he completely delivers. I recommend The Hangover Part II if you are looking to laugh and be entertained, but not so much if you are looking for a unique and high quality movie experience. I give the film 6 Ninja Stars out of 10.
